Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Does the Village provide rubbish collection or do I contract with a hauler?

Answer: See the Garbage and Recycling page on this website. The Village provides refuse pick-up, and curbside recycling and yardwaste pick-up. You will be billed quarterly for these services. Collection is every Wednesday, with recycling collection every other Wednesday. Yardwaste collection is on alternate Wednesdays from recycling, April through November.

Question: Where do I pay my taxes?

Answer: Village taxes are the "summer" taxes, and are due September 14. You may pay these at Village Hall. State Education taxes are also a summer tax and are payable to Putnam Township. "Winter" taxes are also collected at the Putnam Township Hall, 3280 West M-36. They are due February 28.

Question: I just moved to the area. How do I know which schools my children will attend?

Answer: Oddly enough, you need to call the Pinckney Community Schools Transportation Department at 810-225-3900.

Question: How to I contact the police department for non-emergencies?

Answer: Dial 911. 911 service covers non-emergencies as well. Central dispatch can contact the officer on duty about your concern.

Question: Where do I vote?

Answer: All Village residents vote at Putnam Township Hall at 3280 West M-36.

Question: How do I know if I live in the Village of Pinckney?

Answer: This seems like a dumb question, but it really isn't. The Pinckney mailing address can include Putnam, Hamburg and Dexter Townships, as well as the Village itself. You can start with what street you live on (see list), and if you still aren't sure, give us a call at 878-6206.
Question: Can I burn leaves in my yard?

Answer: No. The Village bans the burning of leaves and rubbish, although small recreational bonfires are allowed. Leaves can be raked to the curb in the fall (see our Garbage page for details) or placed in paper yard waste bags for collection April through November.

Question: Can I use a credit card to pay my utility bill or taxes?

Answer: Yes, please see our Taxes and Water and Sewer pages for links and information.

Question: Can I use the village square park and gazebo for an event? Who do I contact?

Answer: Putnam Township owns the park. Reservations can be made submitting a reservation form (available at www.putnamtwp.us under "forms") or call 734-878-6206.
